Like the look of OS X Leopard’s Stacks feature-which provides attractive, quick shortcuts of any folder on your desktop-but you’re on a Windows PC? Free application StandaloneStack brings Leopard-like stacks to your quick launch toolbar.

RocketDock is a smoothly animated, alpha blended application launcher. It provides a nice clean interface to drop shortcuts on for easy access and organization. With each item completely customizable there is no end to what you can add and launch from the dock.

Hot Corners, a free utility for Windows desktops, adds the “hot corners” abilities of OS X’s Expose system to any Windows desktop. The system tray utility can assign actions like minimizing all windows, locking a system, showing the My Documents folder, and others to any corner of the screen you run your cursor into.

FastAero is a Windows XP utility that adds a transparency effect to some program windows. The effect is similar to one of the components of the Aero Glass interface on Windows Vista: You can see through borders of some programs and more easily see what’s going on behind the program window.

Treesize Free has a clean, simple interface showing how much of your hard drive is filled by which folders. As you might guess, it stacks up the root folders by size, then lets you collapse them in nesting trees to see which sub-folders are eating up that 160GB drive you thought you’d never fill.

XXClone is a very easy-to-use app for cloning a system drive while still in Windows. It’s been faster than Macrium Reflect for me, and Macrium’s free version doesn’t support incremental backups. After the initial copy, synching the new changes is obviously a lot quicker than re-cloning the entire drive.

Free clipboard utility xNeat Clipboard Manager is a lightweight, agile utility for those who do their fair share of text wrangling. Much like other clipboard managers, including ControlC and ClipX, xNeat can track all your copied text, folders, and files, and allow you to call them up again with a keyboard shortcut.
